Chiropractors diagnose and treat problems affecting the bones, joints and muscles. Nova chiropractor has an outstanding record of treating cases of lower and upper back pain, neck pain, sciatica, trapped nerves (pinched nerves), injuries from sport, slipped disk, repetitive strain and other musculoskeletal issues. As part of the treatment, our chiropractor may use Western Acupuncture (Dry Needling) to speed up the healing process.
What is a typical chiropractic treatment?
Typical chiropractic treatment involves the gentle and skilful manipulation of the spine, neck and joints into their natural place, thereby allowing the joints to move properly and release pressure on any nerves that may have become affected. This practice is known as ‘adjustment’ and patients often refer to chiropractic ‘cracking’, as there may be a characteristic sound when spine or joints are manipulated.
The chiropractor will use controlled force, leverage, direction, amplitude, and velocity directed at specific joints.
Most often he or she will make these adjustments to the spine, but they may adjust other joints too, such as the ankle, knee, wrist, elbow, or shoulder in order to restore structural alignment or to improve joint function.
Your chiropractor may also use an acupuncture technique known as dry needling, to speed up the healing process.
When being treated for a complaint such as back or neck pain, you will most likely receive a series of adjustments, separated by a few days, to incrementally reduce the irritation and improve normal function. This might continue for several weeks, usually diminishing in frequency.
What to expect:
First Visit: Initial Assessment (45-60minutes):
Upon entering our clinic, our receptionist will welcome you and ensure that you have everything that you need to feel comfortable. You will be asked to complete our new patient forms. This paperwork provides us with your health history and information about your condition.
Next, you will have a thorough consultation with your chiropractor to discuss your health-related problems and concerns. After your consultation, the chiropractor will perform a complete examination testing your posture, range of motion, structure, nerve function, reflexes and flexibility. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, postural, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in your examination process without your consent.
Second Visit: Report of Findings & First Treatment (30-45minutes):
Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, your chiropractor will take you through a detailed report of findings, which will include your diagnosis, treatment options and answer any questions.
After reviewing your health history, goals, and reviewing your physical examination, your chiropractor will discuss recommendations and may also notify you if your condition requires care with other providers.
At the conclusion of the second appointment (Report of Findings), you will receive the first chiropractic adjustment. Treatment is interactive, so you can express concerns about the different styles of treatment anytime.
What if you are in a lot of pain and need treatment on your first visit:
Our chiropractor may treat you during first visit, if you are in pain. This appointment will be longer, so please check with us before booking, if the treatment can be offered on first visit. Please call 01438 532 075. You may be asked to leave a message. Please note we usually call back within 5-60 minutes.
Your chiropractor may suggest a programme to incorporate into your life outside of treatment. If you are in pain when you first come into our clinic, this may include: ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire, our chiropractor will work with you to also create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires an individualised wellness plan. The purpose of this programme is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, exercise, and maintain a positive mental state.
More about chiropractic treatment
Although modern chiropractic practices go back to end of the nineteenth century, spinal manipulation is in fact one of oldest healing practices in the world. Hippocrates talked about the importance of spine wellness in Ancient Greece. The benefits are not limited to the spine, joints, bones and soft tissue. Our patients report that their chiropractic treatment at Nova Clinic leads to a boost in their overall well-being. Notable positive changes can include: stronger immunity, improved digestion, increased energy, lower blood pressure and more easeful breathing.
